Obituary for Robert Stebbins
STEBBINS – Robert “Rob” Bruce Stebbins, age 71 of Chester Twp. It comes with great sadness that Rob has passed away at home, after a long, hard fight against agent orange cancer. After graduating from Kent City High School in 1964 Rob proudly enlisted to serve his country with the United States Marine Corp. While enlisted Rob was an instructor for downhill skiing, mountain climbing, cold weather survival training and Vietnam survival training. In December of 1967 Rob was deployed to Vietnam and was safely returned home in December of 1968. In civilian life Rob continued to serve his community, as an Ottawa County Police Officer at Grand Valley State University for 10 years. Rob also served as a security manager for the Amway Grand Hotel and the Knoll Group. He was an avid outdoorsman, with a great love for hunting and fishing. Rob leaves many memories with his children and grandchildren, while teaching that same love of the outdoors. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Margery Stebbins; in-laws, Julius and Frieda Nussdorfer and special uncle Raymond Wilder. Rob is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy; daughter, Darlene; son, Christopher (Kim) Stebbins; granddaughters, Noelle and Brooke Stebbins; siblings, Judy (Frank) Nelson, Nora (Mike) Myckowiak, John (Pam) Stebbins, Melissa (Dennis) Edwards and Jim (Amy) Stebbins, many nieces. nephews , special cousins, Karen Seites and special aunt, Eleanore Wilder. A Graveside Service will be held at Trinity Cemetery Conklin, on May 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Bryan Schneider-Thomas officiating from Peace Lutheran Church Sparta, Michigan. A luncheon will be served at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 20, 2017 following the interment.
